Books I'm currently reading:
- Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell
- Code: The Hidden Language of Computer Hardware and Software by Charles Petzold
- You Are Being Lied To: The Disinformation Guide to Media Distortion, Historical Whitewashes and Cultural Myths edited by Russ Kick
- Naked Lunch by William S Burroughs — Have heard a lot about this book, am only a few chapters in and it's already living up to its reputation.
Books essentially on hold:
- The Silver Darlings by Neil M Gunn — I think my mum found this somewhere and thought I'd like it. I didn't realise it was so old, written in 1941. I'm quite enjoying the narrative so far
- The Crying of Lot 49 by Thomas Pynchon
- Utopia by Thomas More
- Lasher by Anne Rice — I have no idea what happened to this. I've searched all over the flat and can't find it. I must have taken it out of the house and misplaced it.. Damn, was quite enjoying it too..
- Crypto: Secrecy and Privacy in the New Cold War by Steven Levy — This is a fascinating book, a great historial text on cryptography. I unfortunately left it in a pub somewhere, I only had a few chapters left to read. I'll need to look out for it and finish it soon.
- What Went Wrong?: Western Impact and Middle Eastern Response by Bernard Lewis — Another book I've left in the pub, this was in the middle of the GFT film group, so I should get it back next month, so can continue on from about chapter 4.
- Play Poker Like The Pros by Phil Hellmuth — I've read all of this except the chapters on Stud and Omaha. I'll go back to them once I'm more comfortable with the general theories.
- Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackery — This was the book for the Ottakar's March 2006 book group. None of us managed to finish it and some gave up reading, but I think I'm gonna slowly work my way through the Gutenberg edition when I get time.
- Classical Mythology by Elizabeth Vandiver — This is my 'doing the housework' audio lecture series
- Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll — Always meant to read this, I finished the first book a while ago. Will read this (online) when I get time.
- The Google Story by David Vise
- Argumentation: The Study of Effective Reasoning (2nd Ed) by David Zarefsky
- Google Hacking for Penetration Testers by Johnny Long, Ed Skoudis and Alrik van Eijkelenborg.
- The Financial Times Guide to Business Start Up by Sara Williams — This has been recommended in a number of places.
- The Theory of Poker by David Sklansky
- No Limit Hold'em Theory and Practice by David Sklansky and Ed Miller
- Caro's Book of Poker Tells by Mike Caro
- Azazel by Isaac Asimov — I'm listening to this on an audio book but the voice of the narrator is really annoying me. I put it aside for a while.
