 ====== Movies I've Watched ====== ====== Movies I've Watched ======
 +  * See also [[Notable movies]]
 +
 +===== 2024 ===
 +==== June ====
 +  * [[wp>Paprika]] (2006) - Interesting movie.  Pretty surreal.  Watched it at one of the movie nights in the club.
 +  * [[wp>Tales from Earthsea]] (2006) - Not bad, I liked the voice acting from Timothy Dalton.  Was that a trans villian?  Interesting.
 +  * [[wp>Abigail]] (2024) - I really enjoyed this.  Watched it without knowing much about it.  Good character introductions and some fun over the top action.
 +==== May ====
 +  * [[wp>Atlas]] (2024) - Meh, this was pretty rubbish.  I was expecting some more badass scenes of the AI protecting its occupant etc but it all just sorta fell flat.
 +====April ====
 +  * [[wp>Why Him?]] (2016) - Fun little movie, watched with Naomi.
 +====March ====
 +  * [[wp>Dune: Part Two]] - This was excellent.  I was struggling to find a free night to see this, and ended up watching a 4DX show.  I need to remind myself to never do that again, I find it too annoying/distracting.
 +====January =====
 +  * [[wp>Body Snatchers]] (1993) - I thought I'd already seen this, but a clip or two I saw wasn't familiar.  Anyway, enjoyed this take on it, though it's probably the worst one.
 +  * [[wp>Brainscan]] (1994) - Cheesy sci-fi arcade/VR movie with an interesting premise.  I liked it.
 +  * [[wp>Airborne]] (1993) - Early Seth Green and Jack Black film.  It was pretty dire, but I enjoyed how difficult they made inline skating look :)  Very 90s.
 +  * [[wp>Arcade]] (1993) - Another cheesy sci-fi entry in that 90s genre of VR/tech sci-fi that I have a soft spot for.
 +
 +===== 2023 ====
 +==== December =====
 +  * [[wp>Charly]] (1968) - I just skimmed this movie as the cinematography was a bit dated and I'd read the source material.  It was well made though, I liked it.  Beautiful ending.
 +  * [[wp>Brainstorm]] (1983) - Watched this again as I couldn't quite remember it and I was working through some brain/VR films.  Interesting, trippy movie.  Hearing the three main cast were oscar winners made me look out Charly and watch that next.
 +  * [[wp>Heartbreak Ridge]] (1986)
 +  * [[wp>About Time]] (2013) - Lovely movie.
 +  * [[wp>Sequence Break]] (2017) - Bit of a (too) weird, trippy film.  I liked the characters though.
 +  * [[wp>The Machine]] (2013) - Was inspired to watch this again, decent.
 +==== November =====
 +  * [[wp>Automation]] (2019) - This was dire.  Terrible acting, no redeeming features.
 +  * [[wp>57 Seconds]] (2023) - Overall a bit meh, but easy watching.
 +  * [[wp>Old Dads]] (2023) - This was okay, not as good/relatable as I hoped.  To be fair, I had heard a lot of the jokes before as they'd been directly lifted from either his stand up or stories he's told on his podcast.  Which probably detracted from it a little?
 +==== October ====
 +  * [[wp>V for Vendetta]] (2005) - Fancied a rewatch, it was ok.  The character seemed a little too reddity/m'lady for me.
 +  * [[wp>Influencer]] (2023) - Watched with Naomi over Halloween, decent movie.
 +  * [[wp>The Blackening]] (2023) - I predicted I'd not enjoy this and I was right.  I was hopeful with would be more meta/aware like Scary Movie, but meh.
 +  * [[wp>Reanimator]] (1985) - Been meaning to watch this for years.  Fun, cult movie, some interesting scenes.
 +  * [[wp>Totally Killer]] (2023) - I enjoyed this, fun premise.
 +  * [[wp>The Equaliser 3]] (2023) - More of the same, it was ok.
 +  * [[wp>Moscow on the Hudson]] (1984) - Just wanted to cross this one off my list as a Robin Williams film I hadn't seen.  It was enjoyable enough.
 +==== September =====
 +  * [[wp>The Little Things]] (2021) - I enjoyed this, it felt familiar (just realised I watched it already in Jan 2021), but it mostly just on in the background with Naomi while Harris was sleeping.
 +  * [[wp>The Last Voyage of the Demeter]] (2023) - This was okay.  Good effects and well acted.  I liked the creature design.  That said said, we know the crew is doomed (from the story and the intro), so wasn't much of a plot.
 +  * [[wp>Levianthan]] (1989) - I thought I'd already seen this but if I had, it was a long time ago.  Anyway, I enjoyed it.  Definitely felt inspired by Alien/The Thing.  Amanda Pays was cute.
 +==== August ====
 +  * [[wp>Creepshow 2]] (1987) - Wasn't that great a movie, but I enjoyed this for the 80s cheese.  Interesting to see a very young Bill Tench from Mindhunter.
 +  * [[wp>Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation]] (2015) - I thought I'd seen this before, but I seem to be out of date with the mission impossible movies, so doing some catch up now.  It was okay.
 +  * [[wp>Barbie]] (2023) - Meh, this was alright.  Not sure it was what I expected.  Margot Robbie was fantastically cast (as alluded to by a line in the movie).
 +==== July ====
 +  * [[wp>Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3]] (2023) - Finally got around to this.  It was good.  It was kinda annoying they kept treating space like it wasn't a vaccum, I guess suspension of disbelief was ramped up to the max anyway.
 +==== June ====
 +  * [[wp>Debug]] (2014) - Meh, pretty much what I expected.  Not good.
 +  * [[wp>Robots]] (2023) - This was pretty dire, as I expected, was hoping for a cool scene or two that showcased the robots abilities, but nah, nothing.
 +  * [[wp>Nefarious]] (2023) - I was pleasantly surprised with this.  Interesting, especially for one of those movies that takes place almost entirely in one room.  Great acting from the two leads.
 +==== May ====
 +  * [[wp>Evil Dead Rise]] (2023) - Decent entry in the series.
 +  * [[wp>Simulant]] (2023) - As bad as I thought it was going to be.  Meh.
 +==== April ====
 +  * [[wp>Shazam: Fury of the Gods]] (2023) - Meh.
 +  * [[wp>Sleepers]] (1996) - Not sure I'd seen this before, it was ok.
 +  * [[wp>Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania]] (2023) - Meh.
 +  * [[wp>Tetris]] (2023) - I enjoyed this.  Interesting to see a little of the history.
 +==== March ====
 +  * [[wp>10 Things To Do in Denver When You're Dead]] (1995) - This was a pretty meh movie.  Andy Garcia had some truly strange lines, especially the romantic scenes.  Not sure if it was a product of its time, but no, it was just weird.
 +==== February ====
 +  * [[wp>Knock at the Cabin]] (2023) - Meh, decent acting, but overall the story didn't grab me.  From what I've heard of the novel, it sounded better.
 +  * [[wp>Black Adam]] (2022) - This wasn't as bad as I'd been led to believe.  Better than BPWF.
 +  * [[wp>Black Panther Wakanda Forever]] (2022) - Meh, I really hated this movie.  Boring, too long, too much dialog about their relative plights.  I find Wakanda unbelievable with it's over the top magic like technology, then to watch them against an even more over the top fish people is just annoying.  Writing this while halfway through the movie as I'm so bored, it could be half the run length.
 +==== January ====
 +  * [[wp>M3gan]] (2023) - Enjoyed this.  Give me more rogue AI/robot movies!
 +  * [[wp>Hereditary|Hereditary]] (2018) - I'd been meaning to watch this for a while.  It was good.  Gave me goosebumps a few times.
 +
 +===== 2022 =====
 +==== December ====
 +  * [[wp>Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical]] (2022) - Meh, it was ok, not quite as good/catchy as I expected.  Can't quite put my finger on what I didn't like about it.  The young girl was a good actor though.
 +  * [[wp>Chaos Walking]] (2021) - Couldn't sleep and put this on.  It was decent, I quite liked the imagery/style of the 'noise'.
 +  * [[wp>Violent Night]] (2022) - I enjoyed this, bit more violet/gory than I expected, but fun movie.
 +  * [[wp>Avatar 2 - The Way of Water]] (2022) - This was ok.  Nothing that special.  Felt like the whole movie could have been the middle third of a better movie to be honest.  Watched it the Odeon at the Quay, nice comfy recliner seats.  First time I'd been in those.
 +  * [[wp>Troll]] (2022) - This was ok, not sure what I was expecting.  I wasn't a fan of the English dub/voice acting at all.  I rarely am.
 +  * [[wp>Spiderhead]] (2022) - This was not bad.  Chris Hemsworth did a good job.
 +  * [[wp>Parasite]] (2019) - Saw this at the movie club.  Been meaning to watch this for a while.  It was good, well acted, interestingly shot.  I didn't quite understand why the ending happened.  I expected it to be a little better than it was due to all the hype/positive feedback, but, just good.
 +  * [[wp>Futureshock]] (1994) - I knew this was going to be bad, but it was worse.  Nothing to do with virtual reality whatsoever.  It was just an excuse to throw three short stories together.  I was surprised to see Bill Paxton in this, also, who was that other mortury guy?  He stole every scene he was in.  The old karate guy from Cobra Kai hasn't changed since 1994.
 +
 +==== November ====
 +  * [[wp>Evil Dead 2]] (1987) - Another classic, watched it as part of the horror movie night at the club.
 +  * [[wp>The Thing]] (1982) - Absolute classic.  Watched it as part of the sci-fi movie night at the club.
 +
 +==== October ====
 +  * [[wp>Hocus Pocus 2]] (2022) - I was looking forward to this, but I didn't enjoy it all that much - it felt like a young teen movie, rather than a family movie.  Plus, no horror/scare elements at all really - just that weird Americanised, capitalist Halloween.
 +  * [[wp>Bodies Bodies Bodies]] (2022) - This was okay.  Interesting premise.  Felt familiar, but I couldn't place it.
 +==== September ====
 +  * [[wp>Blank]] (2022) - Meh, rubbish.  I've seen this exact idea a few times already.  Nothing special.
 +==== August ====
 +  * [[wp>Lighyear]] (2022) - Fun little movie.  Decent action (and scary villian/robots) for a kids movie.
 +  * [[wp>Prey]] (2022) - Excellent addition to the Predator franchise.  I enjoyed it, Naomi did too, which is unusual for that time of film generally.
 +  * [[wp>The Grey Man]] (2022) - Decent action movie.
 +  * [[wp>Superbob]] (2015) - I randomly watched this when I was unwell.  It was pretty much what I expected, although I should have anticipated the romantic comedy aspect.
 +==== July ====
 +  * [[wp>Jurassic World Dominion]] (2022) - Meh, easily the worst of the series so far.  Too much cheesey fan service with the original cast.  Felt more like a kids movie than all the others.
 +  * [[wp>X]] (2022) - I was hoping for a bit more than what I got.  Not as humourous and not as exciting as I'd hoped.
 +  * [[wp>Everything Everywhere All At Once]] (2022) - Best movie of 2022 so far I think.  Great acting from the main cast.  Interesting ideas.
 +  * [[wp>Green Lantern: Beware My Power]] (2022) - Not bad, pretty much what I expected.
 +==== June ====
 +  * [[wp>Lapsis]] (2020) - Meh, felt like it almost went somewhere.
 +  * [[wp>Voyagers]] (2021) - This was okay.  Nothing really new here from Lord of The Flies.
 +  * [[wp>Infinite]] (2021) - Meh, Mark Whalberg being Mark Whalberg.
 +  * [[wp>Madelines]] (2022) - Not good.
 +  * [[wp>Project Gemini]] (2022) - This was a decent effort, but I didn't enjoy it all that much.
 +==== May ====
 +  * [[wp>Dark Cloud]] (2022) - This was crap, watched it in the background hoping for at least a cool scene.  Nada.
 +==== April ====
 +  * [[wp>The Outfit]] (2022) - This was excellent, I've always enjoyed Mark Rylance's performances.  This film was well done and I liked the time period.  Felt a bit like an old hitchcock movie too.
 +==== March ====
 +  * [[wp>Implanted]] (2022) - This was thoroughly mediocre.  I was hoping it would be something like Upgrade.
 +==== February ====
 +  * [[wp>Scream]] (2022) - While I did enjoy this.  I've felt movies are getting a bit too meta for their own good recently though.
 +  * [[wp>Kimi]] (2021) - Another lockdown movie (small cast, reduced locations).  It was ok.  Kind of an interesting character, but she just fixed it (and she didn't seem qualified to do that), armed attackers barely an inconvience.
 +==== January ====
 +  * [[wp>Don't Look Up]] (2021) - This was a decent movie.  Good acting as usual from Leo.  The rich CEO was very creepily acted.
 +===== 2021 =====
 +==== December ====
 +  * [[wp>Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City]] (2021) - Meh.
 +  * [[wp>8-bit Christmas]] (2021) - This was okay.  I enjoyed the asthetic.
 +  * [[wp>Home Alone]] (1990) - Decided to watch this as our Christmas Eve movie.  Fun as always.
 +  * [[wp>The Matrix Ressurrections]] (2021) - I went to the cinema to see this on the release day.  It's the only movie I've seen in the cinema (or plan to see) in the past year or two.  I thought the movie was alright, I was a bit disappointed.  I wanted it to be more cerebral - both in dialogue and actual plot, but it was pretty simple.  Oh well, nice to get another installment, but not a patch on the original (or the complexity of the second/third).
 +
 +==== November ====
 +  * [[wp>Finch]] (2021) - I was hoping for a lot more from this.  I think TV/movies take Artificial Intelligence for granted now.  Still, it was a decent, sweet movie, just not the cool sci-fi I was hoping for.
 +
 +==== October ====
 +  * [[wp>The Final Girls]] (2015) - Watched this on Halloween.  Naomi fell asleep.  I'd seen it before, but I seem to have forgotten to write it down.  I think it's a great movie.  Fun, very meta, with some good death scenes and decent acting.  Thomas Middleditch didn't do all that much in this, but I enjoy seeing him.  I hadn't seen Vikings last time I saw this, so it was interesting to see Alexander Ludwig in a new light.  I'd watch a sequel.
 +  * [[wp>Dune]] (2021) - This was great.  Looked amazing.  I was disappointed to see 'Part 1' at the intro (I'd have rather it was one movie).  Oh well, 'twas good.  Will watch the second (or third).
 +  * [[wp>Kate]] (2021) - Watched this on Netflix.  It was a good movie.  Some great fighting sequences.  Mary Elizabeth Winstead was more convincing in that role that I expected her to be.
 +  * [[wp>Halloween Kills]] (2021) - This was decent.  I preferred the previous movie though.  It was an interesting take, to focus on the hysteria around Michael Myers - not sure I've seen anyone take that approach before.  Some gruesome death scenes.
 +  * [[wp>The Guility]] (2021) - Meh.  Not that great.
 +
 +==== September ====
 +  * [[wp>The Accountant]] (2016) - Decent action movie.  I liked Ben Affleck's autistic character, to an extent, he was a bit too good, but anyway, 'twas better than I thought.
 +  * [[wp>Free Guy]] (2021) - Meh.  This entertained me, but I was hoping for more.  The humour fell pretty flat.
 +  * [[wp>Robowar]] (1988) - Absolutely dire.  Can't really think of any saving graces.
 +  * [[wp>Zone 414]] (2021) - Meh.
 +==== August ====
 +  * [[wp>Brewster's Millions]] (1985) - I was reminded about this recently and wanted to re-watch it.  Hadn't seen it since I was a kid.  Still a decent movie.
 +  * [[wp>The Suicide Squad]] (2021) - This was okay.  Better than the first one, more humour etc.  Margot was great as usual.  Starro was different :)  Didn't know much about any of the characters to be honest, had to look them up.
 +  * [[wp>Jungle Cruise]] (2021) - This was terrible.  Not sure what I was expecting.  I should known I might not enjoy a movie based on a Disney ride.  Took two sittings to watch.
 +==== July ====
 +  * [[wp>Blood Red Sky]] (2021) - It was okay, the theme would have been more of a surprise (I'd read the IMDB page) if Netflix didn't have an obvious spoiler as a main image which was annoying.
 +  * [[wp>Fear Street: Part One - 1994]] (2021) - It was okay.  Had a nice feel/style to it, but nothing too impressive.
 +  * [[wp>Settlers]] (2021) - This was okay, a little strange/too arty.
 +  * [[wp>Black_Widow_(2021_film)|Black Widow]] (2021) - Meh, this was ok.  I was quite impressed with the little sister, I expect we'll see more of her.
 +  * [[wp>The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard]] (2021) - Meh.  Some funny one liners, but the story was crap and it felt like everyone was smugly overacting.
 +  * [[wp>The God Committee]] (2021) - Watched this because Kelsey Grammar was in it.  Pretty decent movie, better than I expected.
 +  * [[wp>The Tomorrow War]] (2021) - This was pretty good.  Chris Pratt had a pretty good performance.
 +==== June ====
 +  * [[wp>Flashback]] (2021) - I didn't enjoy this at that much, there was a cool idea in there somewhere - the message spoke 'through time' was pretty cool.
 +  * [[wp>Little Evil]] (2017) - Meh, this was alright, mostly what I expected.
 +  * [[wp>Cruella]] (2021) - Pretty much what I expected.  Some nice costumes.  Emma Stone was decent, as usual.
 +  * [[wp>Monsters of Man]] (2020) - This was decent.  The robot design was well done.  The tech team were a bit annoying.
 +==== May ====
 +  * [[wp>Wrath of Man]] (2021) - This was okay.  Jason Stratham was decent.  I wanted it to be either more professional like the original Transporter, or to embrace his wise cracking side, but it was a bit inbetween so - meh.
 +  * [[wp>The Army of the Dead]] (2021) - Meh, this was not that great.  Some good action, but overall the story was stupid and a lot of bad decisions were made.  Plus, the zombies could do pretty much everything, which makes them not zombies at all (emotions, speed, reproduce, think, plan etc).  Not to mention they moved around like camp acrobatic drama students.
 +  * [[wp>Those Who Wish Me Dead]] (2021) - Didn't like this much.  For some reason I didn't buy Angelina Jolie as that character (despite her pulling similar or stronger characters off in other movies).
 +  * [[wp>Body Double]] (1984) - I caught a few minutes of this while I was digitising some old VHS tapes and ended up looking this out to watch it.  I think it triggered an old memory.  Overall it's a bit of a weird movie.  I thought it was okay, for an early 80s movie.
 +  * [[wp>I.T._(film)|I.T.]] (2016) - This was ok.  Actually, the more I think about some of Brosnan's decisions the more the movie annoys me.  I wanted to watch it just to see how the hacking effects/interfaces were rendered.  They were pretty meh.  Overall, meh.
 +==== April ====
 +  * [[wp>Mortal Kombat]] (2021) - Better than I expected.  I'm not sure I'd recommened it to anyone though, but I like how realistically some of the actors took the roles.
 +  * [[wp>Stowaway]] (2021) - While this was ok - and Anna Kendrick was better than I expected in this more serious role - the science was a bit annoying.  I don't understand (they didn't make it clear enough) why there was a time pressure toward the end.  Anyway, meh.
 +  * [[wp>Ratcatcher]] (1999) - Interesting movie, I liked it.  The old Glasgow asthetic had me hooked from the start. I liked the director's style.  Wil check our another of her movies (We Need to Talk About Kevin) soon.
 +  * [[wp>Nobody]] (2021) - I thought this was excellent.  Fun action movie in a similar vein to John Wick, but which takes itself a little less seriously.  It was good to see Bob Odenkirk stretching his acting chops.  Christopher Lloyd looked like he was having fun in the role too.
 +  * [[wp>Original Gangster]] (2021) - I quite liked the lead actor and the movie was ok - it was a bit strange though, don't think I'd recommend it.
 +  * [[wp>Doors]] (2021) - This was better than I thought it would be, but I don't think I'd recommend it to anyone.
 +  * [[wp>Extra Ordinary]] (2019) - The main actress was quite believable, and I appreciated Will Forte being in this, but overall, meh.
 +==== March ====
 +  * [[wp>Police Story]] (1985) - I wanted to show Naomi an earlyish Jackie Chan [kung fu] film, this might not have been the best choice however.  I enjoyed it.
 +  * [[wp>Look Who's Talking Too]] (1990)
 +  * [[wp>Look Who's Talking]] (1989) - We were talking about this movie recently and decided to watch it.  Funny to hear Bruce Willis's voice.  Decent, family type movie.
 +==== February ====
 +  * [[wp>Jackie Brown]] - Wanted to show this to Naomi.  Not my favourite Tarantino movie, but I have a bit of a soft spot for it.  I listened to The Delphonics for a while after I first watched this movie.
 +  * [[wp>Outside The Wire]] (2021) - This was awful.  The US military have a full artifically intelligent humanoid robot (and have had it for at least 3-5 years) and we just watched it run around with a gun for 2 hours?  Unimaginative crap.
 +  * [[wp>Star Trek: Insurrection]] (1998)
 +  * [[wp>Star Trek: First Contact]] (1996) - Felt like watching one of [the] TNG movies.  Good Star Trek movie, felt like a high budget episode, which is good.
 +  * [[wp>A Perfect World]] (1993) - Part of our Costner marathon.  This was a decent movie, pretty wholesome despite the murders.
 +  * [[wp>The Little Things]] (2021) - I enjoyed this.  There were some strange cinematic choices, but it worked overall.
 +  * [[wp>Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves]] (1991) - Fun little family adventure movie.  Alan Rickman is good as the sheriff.
 +  * [[wp>The Bodyguard]] (1992) - We've been watching Yellowstone and it put me in the mood to rewatch some of the classic Costner movies.  I hadn't seen this one in a long time, good movie.
 +==== January ====
 +  * [[wp>Morgan]] (2016) - I liked this movie.
 +  * [[wp>Memento]] (2000) - Naomi hadn't seen this, so wanted to show it to her.  Good movie.
 +  * [[wp>Supergirl]] (1984) - Naomi hadn't seen this, so wanted to show it to her.  Such a cheesey film, but I've always had a soft spot for it.
 +===== 2020 =====
 +==== December ====
 +  * [[wp>Solitary (film)|Solitary]] (2020) - Forgettable.
 +  * [[wp>Gremlins (film)|Gremlins]] (1984) - I was in the mood to watch this.  It's a Christmas movie!
 +  * [[wp>Die Hard]] (1988) - Classic Christmas movie.
 +  * [[wp>Freaky (film)|Freaky]] (2020) - Meh, alright, the story was a bit mediocre.    Vince Vaughn did a decent job.  It felt like it was aimed toward young adults/teens despite it having an R rating.
 +  * [[wp>Tenet (film)|Tenet]] (2020) - This was okay.  I was looking forward to it, but I didn't like it as much as I hoped.  I felt like there was something missing maybe.  Not sure.  I'll probably watch it again.
 +  * [[wp>Superintelligence (film)|Superintelligence]] (2010) - Meh, pretty mediocre.  I was hoping for more from the AI, it was a bit lacklustre, as was Melissa McCarthy.
 +  * [[wp>Boss Level]] (2020) - I was pleasantly surprised at this, enjoyable groundhog day action movie.
 +  * [[wp>Secret Society of Second-Born Royals]] (2020) - Forgettable.
 +  * [[wp>The New Mutants]] (2020) - Meh.  Ok.
 +==== November ====
 +  * [[wp>Save Yourselves]] (2020) - This was ok.
 +  * [[wp>2067 (film)|2067]] (2020) - Meh, nothing of interest.
 +  * [[wp>The_Collector_(2009_film)|The Collector]] (2009) - I found out about this in a list online of movies 'where the victim hold their own against the killer'.  Decent movie, pretty gruesome, might seek out the sequels.
 +  * [[wp>The_Girl_in_the_Spider's_Web_(film)|The Girl In The Spider's Web]] (2018) - Pretty decent movie.  Not too much stood out though, I liked the character somewhat, though I was kinda hoping for more.  Sniper rifle was cool.
 +  * [[wp>Mindwarp]] (1991) - A Bruce Campbell movie I hadn't seen already.  It was alright, the usual late 80s/early 90s shlock gore.  Interesting idea about the virtual worlds for 1991.  Not much new/interesting though.
 +  * [[wp>The Green Mile]] (1999) - Good movie, I think I'd seen it before, but couldn't remember much of it.  Interesting story idea.  Great performances.
 +  * [[wp>The Untouchables]] (1987) - We were watching this after hearing Sean Connery died.  This was ok.  Good performance from the cast.  Some of the cinematography was a little dated.
 +==== October ====
 +  * [[wp>Borat Subsequent Moviefilm]] - Meh, some humorous moments but I didn't really enjoy this.  I think it's been 'done'.  That said, it's an interesting 'measure of our times' type movie.  The young girl was pretty good, I expect we'll see more of her.
 +  * [[wp>Love and Monsters]] - I didn't expect much from this film, but I was pleasantly surprised.  One of the better 'journey while battling monsters' movies out there.  I should look out for more from this director/writer.
 +  * [[wp>The Andromeda Strain (1971 film)|The Andromeda Strain]] (1971) - I liked this movie.  In typical 70s fashion it was slow and plodding at times, but I liked that aspect, I felt it added gravitas.  Good movie to watch during this Covid season.  It's got me wanting to watch a couple more 60s/70s movies now - I like that era of film making.
 +  * [[wp>The Manchurian Candidate (2004 film)|The Manchurian Candidate]] (2004) - I'd heard a few references to these movies recently, which I hadn't seen, so wanted to cross them off the list.  Meh, simple story.  I actually preferred some of the imagery from the original movie (the flower lecture for example) and although I found the solitare scenes in the original a bit too much, it was good to have some sort of anchor which I felt was missing from this version.
 +  * [[wp>Swordfish]] (2001) - I like this movie.  It still holds up well.  Some classic scenes :)  I wanted to show it to Naomi after I found out she hadn't seen it.  I still want that computer he uses.
 +  * [[wp>The Manchurian Candidate (1962 film)|The Manchurian Candidate]] (1962) - I thought this was a good movie, but I didn't enjoy it much at all.  Pretty slow, felt like it needed better editing - I guess I've just been spoiled with modern film making.
 +  * [[wp>Dirty Harry]] (1971) - Although this film looks so dated in a way, it's still pretty timeless for me.  Naomi hadn't seen it and I thought it might be a bit like Zodiac we saw recently (it wasn't as similar as I remembered).  I want to watch the sequels - I've only seen one or two of them I think.
 +  * [[wp>American Pie presents Girls Rules]] (2020) - This was alright.  No real laugh out loud moments but I don't think I'm the intended audience.  It was interesting to see how these movies have developed for a modern audience.
 +  * [[wp>The Silencing]] (2020) - I was pleasantly surprised at this.  Good movie.  It felt a little morally different too - the story didn't develop as I expected - which I guess is a good thing.
 +==== September ====
 +  * [[wp>Marionette]] (2020) - This was okay.  Pretty much what I expected, but fell sort of flat - I didn't like the ending.
 +  * [[wp>Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon]] (2006) - I'd been meaning to watch this for a while.  There were some great references to slasher tropes that I enjoyed seeing.  Fun movie.
 +  * [[wp>Stretch]] (2014) - Heh, this was fun.
 +  * [[wp>Enola Holmes]] (2020) - Meh, kids movie.  Mille Bobby Brown was decent, I liked the 4th wall breaking.
 +  * [[wp>Red Joan]] (2018) - This was ok.  The young Joan looked a bit like a cross between Emelia Clarke and Reese Wetherspoon.
 +  * [[wp>All The Money In The World]] (2017) - I was hoping for a bit more from Ridley Scott, but the movie was just okay.  It was on Film4 while we were in a hotel for a night due to renovations.  Naomi fell asleep during it.
 +  * [[wp>Oats Studios: Volume 1]] (2017) - A collection of short movies.  This was ok.  Not much stood out.  Kept me distracted when I couldn't sleep one night (watched on Prime).
 +  * [[wp>The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes]] (1970) - Stumbled across this on Netflix and watched it while I was scanning family photos.  It was alright, had the feeling I might have seen it before (the general story was familiar).  They went straight into the drugs and sexuality of Sherlock quite quickly.  Meh, ok Sherlock movie.  Not a huge fan of the main actor.
 +  * [[wp>The 6th Day]] (2000) - I love this film.  Some interesting ideas and the villian's scenes towards the very end are memorable for me.  Fun action movie, with a nice bit of futurism.
 +  * [[wp>American Psycho (film)|American Psycho]] (2000) - Naomi hadn't seen this - I like this movie.  I've been meaning to read the book for literally 20 years - since high school.  Will try and read it next.
 +  * [[wp>The Babysitter Killer Queen]] (2020) - Meh, this was a bit of a weak sequel, it was okay though.  More of the same from the first movie.  I liked some of the Scott Pilgrim like cinematography but it all felt a little forced.  I enjoyed seeing Samara Weaving again, even though she was only in this movie for a fraction of the time compared to the first.
 +  * [[wp>Ghost (film)|Ghost]] (1990) - I've been wanting to rewatch this for a while.  I was interested in seeing how the heaven/hell creatures were represented - they seemed creepier (more like skeletons) in the version I saw, not sure if they changed/updated it or if it was just the higher quality version we had now.  The villian from this movie made me want to watch 6th Day again.
 +  * [[wp>Zodiac (film)|Zodiac]] (2007) - We wanted to see something like this after just finishing The Fall.  I enjoyed this, pretty slow paced, but it was pretty much what I expected it.  Good cast of many familiar faces.  It featured a scene of Dirty Harry which makes me want to watch that next.
 +  * [[wp>Bill and Ted Face The Music]] (2020) - I guess you have to see this if you are a Bill & Ted fan, but I didn't like it too much, just felt a bit forced and it sad to see them getting old.  Quite a few weird scenes and the plot was all over the place.  Could have been better.
 +==== August ====
 +  * [[wp>Max Winslow and the House of Secrets]] (2020) - Sheesh, this was pretty terrible.  Cheesey and the acting was terrible.  Marina Sirtis as the AI sounded just dead inside.. which for an AI might be appropriate, but no, it was just bad.  Probably the worst film I've seen this year and I've seen some crap.
 +  * [[wp>Superman Man of Tomorrow]] (2020) - Meh, pretty much what I expected.  Lotta people being thrown through buildings.  Kinda nice to see a slightly alternative origin story, but it wasn't that different from normal.
 +  * [[wp>Sputnik_(film)|Sputnik]] (2020) - This was okay.  Acting was decent, and it was kind of a unique idea, but don't think I'd recommend it to anyone.
 +  * [[wp>Guns Akimbo]] (2019) - Fun little over the top action movie.  Daniel Radcliffe was pretty good in it.  Samara Weaving looked a bit too crazy for me.. like Yolandi from Die Antwood.
 +  * [[wp>Max Reload and the Nether Blasters]] (2020) - This kinda made me embarrassed for Kevin Smith, it wasn't anything like I hoped it'd be.  Meh.  That said, I've been liking [[https://www.imdb.com/name/nm6076950/|Hassie]] from [[wp>Tacoma FD]].
 +  * [[wp>Project Power]] (2020) - This was okay, lots of contrivances that annoyed me slightly, but a fun action/sci-fi movie overall.
 +  * [[wp>Nightflyers]] (1987) - I'd meant to watch this before watching the new TV show - glad I didn't.  This was terrible.  I hard a lot of trouble following the plot generally - if I hadn't seen the TV show I'm not sure I would have understood anything.  It didn't help that the only copy I could find was terrible VHS quality.
 +  * [[wp>Matrix Revolutions]] (2003) - I'm convinced Neo hasn't actually left the Matrix - yet.
 +  * [[wp>Matrix Reloaded]] (2003) - I think this film (and the third) holds up well - almost as a stand alone movie, it doesn't deserve the hate it seems to get.  The way the architech speaks is how'd I'd imagine certain AIs would speak to humans - succintly verbose.
 +  * [[wp>Matrix]] (1999) - I was inspired to rewatch the sequel after watching a review recently - Naomi and I worked through the trilogy over 3 nights.  We watched an HD blue ray version - not sure my projector is high enough quality for it to look all that different from the DVD.  I enjoyed this rewatch though.  Definitely a great movie.
 +  * [[wp>American Pickle]] (2020) - Meh, this was fine, lotta handwaving (which was lampshaded) but overall just meh.  I get Seth Rogan was trying to do something a bit more heartfelt, but they could have fitted in a bit more humor.
 +  * [[wp>G-Loc]] (2020) - Meh, nothing new or interesting in this.
 +  * [[wp>Return of the Living Dead II]] (1988) - This is ok, a bit repetitive and too similar to the first one.  I'm planning on watching the next three sequels though.
 +  * [[wp>Return of the Living Dead]] (1985) - This is a fun little zombie film.  It's surprisingly meta (they reference a lot of other zombie films and use the word zombie).  The animatronics and effects are extremely well done for what is typical of this genre.  Some crazy over the top 80s nudity too!
 +  * [[wp>Yes, God, Yes]] (2020) - Meh, this was like Saved, but not as good.
 +==== July ====
 +  * [[wp>Victor Frankenstein]] (2015) - Meh, didn't like this much.
 +  * [[wp>Midnight in Paris]] (2011) - This was decent.
 +  * [[wp>The Parent Trap]] (1961) - I'd heard of this movie but never saw it.  One of Naomi's favourites.  It was a decent 60s family/kids Disney movie.  Good effort at the split screen effects.  Some pretty archaic dialogue and the relationship between the parents was awful though.
 +  * [[wp>The Old Guard]] (2020) - This was a fun movie, thought it was just going to be an action movie, so I welcomed the sci-fi element to it.  They left it wide open for a sequel, which I'd watch.
 +  * [[wp>The Outpost]] (2020) - This was a decent war/soldier movie.
 +  * [[wp>Archive (film)|Archive]] (2020) - Wasn't expecting much from this but I was pleasantly surprised.  Overall the story was decent and it had some great set pieces and robotic props.
 +  * [[wp>Palm Springs]] (2020) - I enjoyed this, but I always like a groundhog day type movie.  Some interesting scenes and a decent romantic comedy too.
 +  * [[wp>1917]] (2019) - This was a good movie, well shot and acted.  Not a whole lot of story, but I was in the mood for an epic war story so I enjoyed it. Watched with Naomi.
 +  * [[wp>Hamilton]] (2020) - Been meaning to watch this for a while.  I enjoyed it.  I have one or two of the songs still stuck in my head.  Watched with Naomi.
 +  * [[wp>Silkwood]] (1983) - Decent movie.  I've been watching a slew of nuclear-related 80s films recently.
 +  * [[wp>Disclosure_(1994_film)|Disclosure]] (1994) - I watched this for the VR scenes (which I enjoyed).  It's also rare they mentioned/dealt with how people accessing the same system not using VR would be handled/rendered.  Interesting.  Michael Douglas does not have a great time with women in the 90s.
 +==== June ====
 +  * [[wp>Dracula III Legacy]] (2005) - Terrible.
 +  * [[wp>Dracula II Ascension]] (2003) - I was interested to see a more scientific approach to the Dracula mythos, but it was not a good film.
 +  * [[wp>The Wave]] (2020) - Justin Long was good in this and it was shot well, but not sure I'd recommend it.  I don't quite know what actually happened.
 +  * [[wp>Freejack]] (1992) - Watched this again in the background, after seeing it 10 years ago.  I liked it.  Cheesey early 90s sci-fi action, Mick Jagger's delivery cracks me up.
 +  * [[wp>Nightmares_(1983_film)|Nightmares]] (1983) - Meh.  Pretty shlocky anthology of four horror stories.  I watched this after hearing some reference to Emilio Estevaz getting sucked into a computer game in one of the stories.  It was mediocre.  I enjoyed seeing the computer graphics and the general arcade vibe of early 80s New York though.
 +  * [[wp>Proximity (2020 film)|Proximity]] (2020) - Meh, this wasn't a great movie, couple of interesting scenes/ideas.
 +  * [[wp>Beetlejuice]] (1988) - Classic late 80s family movie.  Naomi hadn't seen it.
 +  * [[wp>Radioactive_(film)|Radioactive]] (2019) - This was ok.
 +  * [[wp>Wishmaster 2]] - I hadn't seen this before, enjoyed it (GFIG: good for its genre).  I'm gonna watch the next two.
 +  * [[wp>Wishmaster (film)|Wishmaster]] (1997) - Saw this was on Netflix and Naomi hadn't seen it.  It's a fun movie.  Inventive deaths and special effects.
 +  * [[wp>True Romance|True Romance]] (1993) - One of my favourite romantic movies.  Still holds up well.  Naomi hadn't seen it.
 +==== May ====
 +  * [[wp>Mercury Rising]] (1991) - Watched this again (without even checking, didn't remember it from 14 years ago).  Meh, it was ok.  The kid went full Tropic Thunder.
 +  * [[wp>Tau]] (2018) - Meh, kinda interesting, nothing special.
 +  * [[wp>Uncut Gems]] (2019) - Wasn't quite sure what to expect of this movie.  It wasn't that good.  I'm surprised it was rated so highly on IMDB (7.9 at the time I watched it).  Meh.  Naomi gave up half way through. I watched the end later.  Sandler was good in it, but everybody was a bit shouty/annoying.
 +  * [[wp>2036 Origin Unknown]] (2018) - I was pleasantly surprised by this.  Pretty low budget, and mostly takes place in one room.  Cara Thrace was pretty good and I enjoyed the story.
 +  * [[wp>The American]] (2010) - Meh, this was ok.  I didn't understand the first scene with his girlfriend right enough - must not have been paying enough attention.
 +  * [[wp>In The Shadow of the Moon]] (2019) - Pretty decent sci-fi movie.  Enjoyed it.
 +  * [[wp>The Lodge]] (2020) - Watched this with Naomi.  I was in the mood for a modern horror.  I didn't like this at all.  It was well acted, and well shot, but I just found the story a bit boring.  I was surprised to see Alica Silverstone.
 +  * [[wp>Greed]] (2019) - I was hoping for a bit more from this (i.e. comedy) but it was a semi-somber critque of capitalism and fast fashion.  Meh.
 +  * [[wp>The Cold Equations]] (1996) - Binging some stuff on Amazon Prime.  This was terrible.
 +  * [[wp>The Double 0 Kid]] (1992)- Crappy teen agent remake.
 +  * [[wp>The Last Stand]] (2013) - Meh.
 +  * [[wp>Beta]] (2017) - Meh, pretty much what I expected, nothing interesting.
 +  * [[wp>Head Games]] (1996) - This felt older than 1996.  Pretty terrible movie.
 +==== April ====
 +  * [[wp>The Never Ending Story]] (1984) - I couldn't really remember much of this movie - I think I only saw it once before in school.  It was fun to watch it again.  I was impressed with how meta it got towards the end.  Fun.
 +  * [[wp>Cube|Cube]] (1997) - Rewatched this with Naomi - I was reminded of it after watching The Platform.  Good movie, still holds up well.  I forgot Rodney McKay was in it.
 +  * [[wp>Possessor| Possessor]] (2020) - I didn't enjoy this, that said, I'm not sure I followed the last 15 minutes as well as I'd like to have.  It had some pretty well done gore, but I was expecting more of a sci-fi thriller than a horror.  Meh.
 +  * [[wp>Grosse Point Blank|Grosse Point Blank]] (1997) - Watched this with Naomi after a recommendation from Steven Munro.  I thought I'd seen this already (pre-list) but it turned out I hadn't.  The start was kinda interesting, but I just didn't enjoy the film much at all.  Maybe if I'd watched it back in '97 I'd have appreciated it more.
 +  * [[wp>Left_Behind_(2014_film)|Left Behind]] (2014) - I was interested in the rapture part but meh.  It's just a mediocre plane crash movie.
 +  * [[wp>Outbreak_(film)|Outbreak]] (1995) - Another in our pandemic series.  It was okay.  Felt a litle 90s.
 +  * [[wp>Contagion_(2011_film)|Contagion]] (2011) - Naomi and I were inspired to watch some pandemic movies.  This was decent, I'd seen it a while ago.  It was interesting how accurate it seemed to be.
 +  * [[wp>Gantz: O]] (2016) - This started well, but quickly devolved into the usual hour long anime fight sequence.  Meh.
 +  * [[wp>Cypher|Cypher]] (2002) - I enjoyed this, probably more than I did the first time around in 2002.
 +  * [[wp>The Gentlemen]] (2020) - Pretty decent.  First time I'd seen Hugh Grant in a role where he wasn't playing Hugh Grant.
 +  * [[wp>Bloodshot]] (2020) - I quite liked the idea of how they manipulated him, but otherwise the movie was pretty die.  Another example of nano-tech that was just far too magical for me to enjoy.
 +  * [[wp>Rise of Skywalker]] (2020) - Meh
 +  * [[wp>Blast From The Past|Blast From The Past]] (1999) - I have a soft spot for this movie, mostly because I like the bunker scenes.   Watched this with Naomi, thought it'd be a good isolation/quarantine movie.
 +  * [[wp>James vs His Future Self]] (2020) - Meh.  Not good.
 +  * [[wp>Scarface|Scarface]] (1983) - Finally got around to watching this with Naomi.  It's a good film, Pacino did a good job.
 +==== March ====
 +  * [[wp>Come To Daddy]] (2019) - Another example of a weird Elijah Wood movie.  This was interesting enough though.
 +  * [[wp>Sonic the Hedgehog (film)|Sonic the Hedgehog]] (2020) - Meh, kinda wanted a bit more from this.  It was ok.
 +  * [[wp>The Invisible Man (2020 film)|The Invisible Man]] (2020) - This was decent, more slasher than sci-fi.
 +  * [[wp>Joker (2019 film)|Joker]] (2019) - Good movie.  Joaquin Phoenix did a great job. (Watched on the plane on the way back from Orlando)
 +  * [[wp>Jumanji: The Next Level]] (2019) - More of the same, it was ok.
 +  * [[wp>The Mule (2018 film)|The Mule]] (2018) - This was pretty decent.  Clint Eastwood is looking pretty old these days. (Watched on the plane on the way back from Orlando)
 +==== February ====
 +  * [[wp>My Cousin Vinny]] (1992) - I wanted to see this after enjoying a clip of the scene between the guy who mistakes Vinny for an inmate at the prison - noticed it was on the list of films on the entertainment system on the plane on a flight to Florida and took the chance to watch it.  I enjoyed it.  Pesci was good.  I learned about grits (we tried some in Florida.. ugh) and I learned I like 1992 Marisa Tomei.
 +  * [[wp>Zombieland Double Tap]] (2019) - This was alright.  I liked the style though I found it all a bit 'too much'.
 +  * [[wp>Downsizing]] (2017) - I'd wanted to watch this a while ago.  I thought it would be more lighthearted/whimsical but what it was instead was interesting and quite beautiful.  I liked it but not sure its something I'd know how to recommend to anyone.  Watched it with Naomi on the couch after a steak dinner in town.
 +==== January ====
 +  * [[wp>Ghost In The Machine]] (1993) - Noticed this was in a list of cyberpunk movies.  I'd not seen it before.  It was pretty terrible.  Interesting VR scene in the arcade, but the ending made no sense at all (well, nothing made sense.. He basically Dr Manhatten'd a MRI overload).  Oh well.  It's a fun little 90s cyberpunk horror movie - couple of good deaths.  See [[Notable movies]]
 +  * [[wp>Species]] (1995) - I was curious to see how this movie began (I couldn't remember it exactly) but ended up watching the whole thing when I couldn't sleep one night.
 +  * [[wp>King of New York]] (1990) - Was interested to see this after seeing the impressive cast.  It was alright.
 +  * [[wp>Angel Has Fallen]] (2019) - Not bad, for what it was.  Very interesting and probably prescient drone scene though.
 +  * [[wp>Bombshell]] (2019) - Meh, watched this for Margot Robbie.  It was OK.
 +  * [[wp>Knives Out]] (2019) - This was a fun movie.  Daniel Craig played an interesting character.  To be honest the plot made little sense even after it was all explained.  Ana De Armas was good.
 +  * [[wp>6 Underground]] (2019) - Some great action scenes and some funny moments, but, meh.
 +  * [[wp>Hustlers]] (2019) - This was alright.

 +  * [[wp>No Country For Old Men]] (2007) - I just realised I watched this in March 2008, but it wasn't familiar at all.  Good movie, didn't seem to have the same trouble I reported 12 years ago.
   * [[wp>Once Upon a Time in Hollywood]] (2019) - Watched this with Naomi.  I enjoyed it.  Not my favourite Tarantino movie, but it was stylish, interesting and I liked the dynamic between DiCaprio and Pitt.  It took me far too long to realise what it was actually about and I really liked how they handled the ending.  It'll probably have much more of an impact on someone who wasn't aware of the event once they look up the history.  I wonder if this'll become a cult classic soon.  Looking forward to whatever Tarantino makes next.
   * [[wp>Ad Astra]] (2019) - I didn't like this movie at all.  The science was shoddy, the plot was boring (it could have been set anywhere - if it's going to be in space, at least involve some science/space plot points). There was nothing new in it.  Brad Pitt's acting was decent, but the story was just some wishy-washy emotional effort.  Lotta plot holes.  What was the point of the detour to rescue the first ship?  Why did he have to travel to Mars (and not just send a recording)?   The orbital mechanics and basic space scenes were appallingly bad.   * [[wp>Ad Astra]] (2019) - I didn't like this movie at all.  The science was shoddy, the plot was boring (it could have been set anywhere - if it's going to be in space, at least involve some science/space plot points).    * [[wp>The Liong King]] (2019) - Meh.  This really didn't need to be made.  It wasn't anywhere near as good as the original.  Not sure why the made it, other than a cash grab.  Like a lot of the criticism I've read online - the faces weren't expressive enough - and the dialogue was pretty stilted - someone suggested they were speaking slower than normal to allow the animation to keep up (and not look strange) - which meant the timing was ruined for some of the interactions (or just left out altogether) - I agree.
