TV Shows

Starting to track what I watch.

Still to start

In order of preference:

  • Time of Eve (2008) imdb - 6 episodes - “In the not too distant future androids have come into common usage. Taking the androids for granted, humans treat them as if they were common everyday tools, while on the other hand, some people empathize with androids due to their human-like appearance (save for a digital ring floating above their heads). This has become a social problem and these people are frowned upon as a result. Rikuo, one who has taken androids for granted for his entire life, one day discovers that Sammy, his home android, has been acting strangely and finds a strange phrase recorded in her activity log. He, along with his friend Masaki, traces Sammy's footsteps and come upon an unusual café.”
  • Utopia (2020) - imdb - 8 episodes - John Cusack. “A group of young adults, who meet online, get a hold of a cult underground graphic novel, which not only pins them as a target of a shadowy deep state organization, but also burdens them with the dangerous task of saving the world.”
  • Helstrom (2020) imdb - 10 episodes. “Daimon and Ana Helstrom are the son and daughter of a mysterious and powerful serial killer. The siblings have a complicated dynamic as they track down the terrorizing worst of humanity - each with their attitude and skills. ”
  • The Watch (2020) imdb - 8+ episodes. “Based on the characters from Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels, A group of misfit cops rise up from decades of helplessness to save their corrupt city from catastrophe. ”
  • Cypher (TV series) (2021) imdb - 8+ episodes. “Will Scott, one of the FBI's leading crypto-analysts is hired to crack a heavily coded document. He soon discovers it's a hit list, putting him in the cross-hairs of the bad guys who want it back. ”
  • 11.22.63 imdb - 8 episodes - James Franco. “A high school teacher travels back in time to prevent John F. Kennedy's assassination.”
  • Pure Genius (2016) imdb - 13 episodes. “A young Silicon Valley tech-titan enlists a veteran surgeon with a controversial past in starting a hospital with a cutting-edge, new school approach to medicine. ”
  • Made for Love (2021) imdb - 10+ episodes. “A young woman, on the run after 10 years in a suffocating marriage to a tech billionaire, suddenly realizes that her husband has implanted a revolutionary monitoring device in her brain that allows him to track her every move. ”
  • Intruders (2014) imdb - 8 episodes - Millie Bobby Brown. “A secret society is devoted to chasing immortality by seeking refuge in the bodies of others. ”
  • A Discovery of Witches (2018) imdb - 3+ seasons. “Diana Bishop, historian and witch, accesses Ashmole 782 and knows she must solve its mysteries. She is offered help by the enigmatic Matthew Clairmont, but he's a vampire and witches should never trust vampires. ”
  • The Spy (2019) imdb - 6 episodes - Sacha Baron Cohen. “Based on the life of the Israeli spy, Eli Cohen. ”
  • The Crazy Ones (2013) imdb - 1 season, 22 episodes - Sarah Michelle Gellar, Robin Williams. “Out-of-the-box Simon Roberts runs an ad agency with his Type-A daughter Sydney. ”
  • Biohackers (2021) “A fast-paced thriller following medical student Mia Akerlund who discovers the use of highly advanced biohacking technology in her university town.”

Currently Watching

  • Billions (Season 5)
  • Foundation - This is good so far, visually very cinematic.
  • Letterkenny (Season 1)
  • Star Trek: Lower Decks (2021) (Season 2)
  • American Gods (2021) (Season 3)
  • The Feed (2019) imdb - 10+ episodes. “A man's invention of a brain implant that allows people to share thoughts and emotions gets into the wrong hands. ”
  • Code 404 - Dear me, this is rubbish. Not sure I'm going to continue. I've only watched the pilot so far, and there is no sci-fi/AI or anything to keep my interest. I'll try (suffer through the awkward humor of) another episode or two before deciding to ditch it.
  • Debris (2021) imdb - 13+ episodes. “Two agents from two different continents, and two different mindsets, must work together to investigate when wreckage from a destroyed alien spacecraft has mysterious effects on humankind. ”
  • Columbo - Working our way through a list of the best episodes, strange to think some of these episodes are more than 50 years old. Fun to see actors like Leonard Nimoy etc.
  • Superman and Lois - Bah, I was annoyed after the first episode, such a focus on emotions. I'm a sucker for Superman though, so will probably watch the others in the background. By start of episode 5: Bah, infuriating emotional teen shite. I'm intrigued by Lex Luthor and alternate realities though.. Damn, still watching.
  • Resident Alien - The pilot was good. I'm a big fan of Alan Tudyk so have to see it.
  • The Mandalorian (Season 2)
  • Stargirl - Meh, undecided.
  • Marvel: Agents of Shield - This is mostly background. Some of the AI/framework stuff in Season 4/5 was interesting. They didn't do as much with it as I hoped though.
  • Infinity Train - Meh, undecided. Annoyingly short episodes.
  • The Twilight Zone (Season 2) [2020] - Undecided.

2021

  • What If - Enjoying this, some are much better than others. The last epsiode was the best, had some fun scenes.
  • Clarkston's Farm (2021) (Season 1) - I really enjoyed this. Never really seen much of Jeremy Clarkson, but I liked him in this. I learned quite a bit about farming too. I'd watch more of this.
  • The Squid Game (2021) - I enjoyed this.
  • Rick and Morty (2021) (Season 5) - Superb as usual.
  • Generation Kill - I enjoyed this. Alexander Skarsgård was good as well as the others - some good characterisation overall.
  • Vigil - This was good, didn't enjoy it as much as Line of Duty though.
  • Loki - I especially liked the first episode, the introduction was great. Overall I don't really care much about Loki, so my interest petered off toward the end, decent show though.
  • Vikings (Season 1-6) - Pretty good. I meant to start watching this years ago after a few recommendations, but enjoying it now. End: This was a good show. I could probably have stopped after the fourth season as I wasn't as interested in the remaining characters.
  • American Gods (Season 2) - I enjoyed Season 1, but for some reason didn't go back to it. I was reminded I liked the AI/technology element at the end of season 1/start of season 2, so finally got around to continuing the show. I'm enjoying it.
  • Utopia (2013) - imdb - 12 episodes. “After a group of people, who meet online, discover a bizarre graphic novel which seems to hold mysterious answers, they find themselves being tracked down by a merciless organization known merely as 'The Network'. ” This was okay. Some interesting characters.
  • Invincible (Season 1) - This was a great show. Brutal and gruesome animation added a lot of realism. The world was interesting. The voice acting was good. I'm looking forward to Season 2 and more of the story now.
  • In The Line of Duty (Season 6) - Really enjoyed this overall, I thought it was a good insight into the anti-corruption units of the police even though some have said it's not realistic. I liked that I hadn't thought about how the anti-corruption officers would be treated, or how difficult it would be to prove certain offences occured. Now I know. The ending wasn't what I wanted, but on the other hand, the more I talk about it, the more it makes me think of the quote “Don't attribute to malice that which can be explained by incompetence”, (or spoiler, in this case, the greed of one man) which is a decent idea to end on in my opinion.
  • Bloodlands - Meh, this was ok.
  • Cobra Kai (Season 1-3) - I didn't expect to enjoy this as much as I did. I really like the acting/character from William Zabka. Will watch more when it comes out.
  • WandaVision - Struggling to get through the first couple of episodes. Meh, it was ok. I could have watched the Agatha episode and the finale and that would have been all I needed to see.
  • Dead Pixels - I didn't enjoy this at all. It all felt a bit pathetic - was that the point? I dunno.
  • Yellowstone (Season 3) - I enjoyed it, but was happy for it to end, however the last episode makes me excited for Season 4.
  • Your Honor (Season 1) - Enjoying this. Bryan Cranston is doing a great job as usual.
  • The Expanse (Season 5) - Meh, I enjoyed it, not sure I'd recommend it to anyone though. Althoug this season was good, better than 3 and 4, the first two seasons had more to offer I think. Anyway, might still read the novels.
  • The Expanse (Season 4)
  • Next (Season 1) - I'm always happy to watch a show about an AI. It was a frustratingly stupid AI though.
  • Traces - This was decent. Not sure I'd recommend it though, there are better shows. Martin Compston did a decent job as usual.
  • Yellowstone (Season 2) - Lots of action and stuff going on. Decent.

2020

  • Yellowstone - Just started the pilot, looks good.
  • The Mandalorian (Season 1) - Good show. I'm not super into it, but happy to watch it.
  • His Dark Materials (Season 1) - Good new show, I'd read the first book, but the world is all pretty new to me.
  • Star Trek Lower Decks (Season 1) - Really enjoying this, it's a bit over the top at times, but I enjoy the humour and its always nice to have more Star Trek.
  • Star Trek: Discovery (Season 3) - Meh, the show started well, lots of interesting ideas, but I didn't enjoy many of the episodes. Michael annoyed me. The amount of pontificating was frustrating. I had a glimmer of hope when the AI reappeared, but this opportunity was just wasted again.
  • Automan - Wow, this might be one of the cheesiest things I've ever seen. No explanation at all for why this guy was conjured up out of thin air from an early 80s mini computer. I like it :) Only one season before it was cancelled, apparently each episode cost a record setting $1 million to make. Finished: It really shows that they didn't know anything about computers (and assumed noone else did), his powers were getting quite over the top but they had an easy out (his power requirements). Shame it was cancelled.
  • The Undoing - I enjoyed this, though I kinda guessed how it would pan out. The girl was pretty - she looked a bit like a native american Jennifer Lawrence.
  • The Ripper - Interesting documentary. It seemed like they had an unusual amount of relevant high quality footage which I found a little strange.
  • Raised By Wolves - Enjoying this. I think it has a lot of potential. The pilot episode was great, feature length and showed lots of stuff while raising more questions (rather than just opening lots of 'tease' threads). Finished: Meh, the pilot was great. Not much else happened in the rest of the show. It could have been a decent mini series, plenty that could have been cut out and not affected the show. Stil, the world is intriguing. I'll watch another season.
  • The Boys (Season 2) - Wow. I enjoy this show. It's brutal.
  • Hanna (Season 1 & 2) - Meh, this was OK. Bit too 'coming of age' teen stuff for me, and the ending just sort of petered out.
  • The Fall (Seasons 1-3) - This was great show, Gillian Anderson was excellent, I thought her character was pretty interesting. The villian was very good too. Wasn't sure where it was going by the start of season three, which was a good thing. I enjoyed the ending too.
  • Brave New World (Season 1) - This wasn't bad - I liked it.
  • Pennyworth (Season 1) - I was pleasantly suprised at this. The lead did a great job channelling a young Michael Caine/Alfred. The story got a bit far fatched, but overall I enjoyed it. They painted a really interesting alternative Britain/world in which Gotham exists. I'll watch more.
  • Inhumans - Meh, pretty mediocre. Had it on the background mostly. Nothing stood out much to me, they chould have done a lot more with the guy who saw probabilities (in a sense). I also wanted to hear more about the face in the wall, which could have been fascinating. Oh well.
  • 24: Live Another Day - I've never really seen much of 24 (maybe the first season or two) but was inspired to watch this after someone referred to a Scottish hacker in it. The hacking was meh, but overall the show was entertaining.
  • Mr Robot (Season 4) - Wow. Great show. Some of the most accurate hacking/computer scenes I've seen in a film or TV show. Good ending. Great acting from Rami Malek and the others. One of the best TV shows in the past decade.
  • AFK - This was pretty terrible. I don't know why I watched it all - the episodes were short. It was cringy and the acting was very bad. It took itself too seriously despite being so irreverent.
  • Halt and Catch Fire - Been meaning to watch this for a while now. Ended up binging the whole four seasons in a couple of days. I really liked this. The material was straight up my street and the acting was pretty great. It was interesting to see Cameron in this role - I only knew her from Terminator Dark Fate.
  • Emergence - I enjoyed this. I wanted to see more of the girl's abilities. Not sure I'd recommend it though.
  • Devs - This was interesting, I wanted a bit more from the show. Still, it had some interesting existential scenes (the echo when they were watching themselves in the lab for instance).
